Commerce geared for more export-related activities

Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Polabutr is prepared to launch road shows and attend mor tarde fairs, as proactive measures to boost exports to new and old markets.

He noted that the three ministers at the ministry would work as a team to promote export, which could be in crisis and lead to higher unemployment.

"All units must work together to launch activities," he said, adding that exports to new and old markets must show positive growth. However, he declined to be specific on the growth rate. A review is necessary as main markets like the US, Europe and Japan have witnessed economic slowdown. However, he is optimistic that if the ministry works side by side with the private sector, there should be growth.

The ministry has expected the 2009 export value to grow 0-5 per cent.
