Restoring Govt House

Furniture damaged during the months-long siege of Government House, most dating back to the times of Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsonggram in the 1940s, was taken out for repair.

Loiluen Bunnag, deputy secretary-general for the prime minister, said the furniture would be repaired at Ban Phitsanulok and ban Manangkasila, with furniture from the government's temporary offices in Don Mueang Airport would be used in the meantime. It will also take a while to repair the toilets and sewage system in the complex.

He said the premises, especially the fences, would be cleaned and repainted after a merit-making ceremony was held tomorrow.

Restoration of the landscape should begin soon and be completed by next February before the Asean Summit, he said. Loiluen said technicians had also inspected the communication systems.
