Customs men haul in big catch, including Australian



The Customs Department has arrested several people over the past few weeks, including an Australian passenger nabbed at Suvarnabhumi Airport with heroine worth Bt12 million.

The suspect, Andrew Hood, 30, was carrying three kilograms of the drug, while another traveller (unnamed) was caught with 980 karats of diamonds, Customs Department deputy directorgeneral Somchai Phoonsawat announced yesterday.

Endangered wildlife

Customs officials over at Bangkok Port have seized 149,210 contraband items, including clothes, cellphone covers, wristwatches and key holders, worth in total Bt12.5 million. They also uncovered Bt5million worth of items violating the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, among them turtle shells and serow horns.

In Prachuap Khiri Khan, Pran Buri customs men arrested a smuggler carrying 215,000 tablets of Prolidin and Decondine  two substances used in yaba production  valued at Bt2.1 million, while in Chon Buri's Laem Chabang Port, an illegal shipment of Siamese rosewood worth Bt3.5 million was recovered from a container bound for China.
