THAI axes fuel surcharges by 40%

Thai Airways International will cut fuel surcharges on domestic and international routes by 40 per cent, effective from Dec 19.

The new fuel surcharge rate on most international routes will be at average 40 per cent lowered than the previous announcement in November 2008, while the new fuel surcharge on THAI's domestic routes will be Bt400 instead of the current Bt700 per flight, excluding Chiang Mai - Mae Hong Son which is charged Bt200.

Pandit Chanapai, THAI's Executive Vice President, Commercial Department announces that, the cut follows the declining world oil prices.

The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) yesterday resolved to cut the daily crude oil production by 2.2 million barrels, on hope that it would stem the decline in oil prices.
