Thai Summit workers end road blockade

Subcontract workers of Thai Summit Auto Body Industry Co Ltd agreed to disperse after the employer agreed to pay bonus to all subcontract workers.

Those with 1-year working period will receive bonus equivalent to 300 days of their pay, those with 6 months or more get 20 days and those with less than 6 months of work will receive Bt600 each.

About 400 subcontract workers of Thai Summit Auto Body Industry Co Ltd in the morning of Wednesday blocked Bangkna-Trat Road km 12 (on the way to Chon Buri), as they are negotiating for year-end bonuses.

A worker said that the company earlier resolved to pay 4-month bonus to 1,400 employees and refused to pay bonus to 600 subcontract workers. The workers raised four requests, asking for a similar bonus payment. They also asked the auto-parts company to put subcontract workers who have worked for more than a year as full-time employees. The company must also avoid layoffs during the New Year holidays or file charges against the protesting workers.
