Cash deficits balloon to Bt163 billion

The Thai government witnessed cash deficit of Bt56.3 billion in November, which boosted the cash deficit in the first two months of the 2009 fiscal year to Bt163 billion, according to the Fiscal Policy Office.

Balancing the deficit was government bonds worth Bt25 billion and treasury reserves of Bt138 billion.

The office's director-general Somchai Sajjapongse said on Tuesday that government revenue in November was only Bt108.9 billion, down 7.1 per cent from the same period last year, due to declining consumption and delayed imports which led to a drop in value-added taxes, import tariffs and excise taxes.

Meanwhile, state enterprises also remitted a smaller amount of revenue. In the first two months of the fiscal year, starting from October, the combined revenue remittance was only Bt202 billion, 13.2 per cent down from last year.
