Abhisit voted as the 27th prime minister


Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is elected as new prime minister

December 14, 2008.

10.58am : Pracha walks from his seat to congratulate Abhisit.

10.55am : Abhisit wins 235 votes while Pracha wins 198 votes.

10.30am : As the 266th MP votes, Abhisit gets 127 nd Pracha 107 votes. 

10am : Voting for new PM starts.

9.59 am : Chai closes the nomination, saying the vote will be between Abhisit and Pracha.

9.57 am : Snoh Thienthong nominates Pol Gen Pracha Promonk, leader of Pheu Pandin to be new PM.

9.55 am : Chai asks the Chambre to endorse Banyat's  nomination. 214 votes endorsed.

9.54 am : Chai asks Banyat to repeat his nomination of Abhisit, saying he was busy talking to some MPs and did not hear his nomination properly.

9.51 am : Democraty MP Banyat Bantathan nominates Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva as new PM. 

9.47 am : Chai opens the floor for nomination of the new PM.

9.44 am : Chai said Somchai Wongsawat's premiership was ended following the Constitution Court's ruling to dissolve his People Power Party. Therefore the Parliament opens today to vote for the new prime minister.

9.42 am : Television broadcast shows that the Parliament has 437 MPs and 431 of them attended the session.

9.40 am : Chai announces that the meeting will be broadcast through radio until the end.

9.45 am : Chai asks the chambre to stand in one-minute silence for Democrat MP Sombat Suthikornwong who passed away on Monday morning.

9.30am : House Speaker Chai Chidchob opens the Parliament session to vote for new prime minister.
