Mystery body may have been PAD

The dead man found "murdered" in an empty warehouse at Don Mueang Airport might have been a member of the security force for the People's Alliance for Democracy, police said yesterday.

"The body is decayed, but from a primary investigation he was attacked and died around five or six days ago," Pol Lt Colonel Boonchot Lengbamrung said, without elaborating on the nature of the attack.

The man, aged about 30, was wearing the uniform used by volunteer guards for the PAD, which occupied the domestic airport from November 26-December 3, he said.

The man carried a piece of cloth that the guards - known as the "Srivijaya Warriors" - often used as a good luck charm to ward off danger, he said.

Police were working to identify the corpse, he said.

The body was wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped on the second floor of an abandoned cargo building and discovered on Tuesday evening by a security officer who noticed a stench emanating from the building, he said.

The area where he was found was occupied by PAD guards during the seizure of the airport, he added.

Deputy police chief Jongrak Juthanon said the man might be a PAD guard and killed by other PAD guards who hid the body there.

The building was used by PAD guards as living quarters while the PAD occupied the airport, he said.

Pol Maj Boonchote Liangbamrung of Don Muang Police Station said the man might have been murdered when the PAD withdrew from the airport.

At least one PAD supporter was reported killed and 22 wounded in a grenade attack at Don Mueang on Tuesday last week, hours before a court ruling ousted the prime minister and led to the movement lifting the siege.
