THAICOM renews 10-Year Contract with DLTV Channels

Distance Learning Television of Thailand

THAICOM, Asia's leading commercial satellite operator and the operator of the IPSTAR satellite broadband system, announced the Company has signed a renewal 10-Year Contract with the Distance Learning Education via Satellite Foundation of Thailand (DLF) for three-quarters of one Ku-band transponder on the THAICOM 5 satellite to broadcast DLTV channels. The contract was inked by Kwankaew Vajarothai, executive chairman of DLF, and Nongluck Phinainitisart, president of THAICOM.

Established in 1996, DLTV presently broadcasts a total of 15 educational channels from Kraikangwon Palace School, at Hua-Hin district, Prachuapkeereekhan province. It broadcasts via the Ku-band beam on the THAICOM 5 satellite to more than 17,000 schools across the country and also to other viewers. These subscribers include schools mostly in the remote areas where there is a lack of teachers.

Nongluck said, "We are greatly honored that Distance Learning Education via Satellite Foundation (DLF) has continued trust in our services which began in 1996. As everyone is well aware, DLTV provides tremendous educational benefits and equal opportunities to Thai students nationwide and is significant in enhancing the development of Thai society, especially in the remote and far-reaching areas of the country. The lack of teachers is still a major challenge in our educational system, even in parts of the greater Bangkok area. THAICOM, as a vehicle to deliver DLTV channels to students and viewers throughout Thailand, is therefore very grateful to be able to support such beneficial projects. We are also proud to be a part of their 13 years of continued success."
