People who live at a new Bangkok residential development called Blue Lagoon will not only find a comfortable lifestyle, but will be able to monitor their homes in real time by Internet from work, or while travelling or shopping.
The digital link with home is just one aspect of a collaborative effort between the developer, Number One Housing Development, and True Corporation to use a convergence technology concept to create one of Bangkok's first "cyber villages".
Blue Lagoon, a luxury housing project, is located on the Bang Pa-in-Bang Na Outer Ring Road in the Suvarnabhumi area. Number One Housing Development's executive director Sutham Suwannapasri said the cyber-home infrastructure, including a broadband network, was laid down while the project was being developed.
There are currently three major aspects to the project's "digital reticulation". Future residents will be able to monitor their homes remotely, they will be able to switch home appliances on or off remotely, and they will be able to enjoy WiFi Internet access.
Whenever they're away from home, residents of Blue Lagoon will be able to use mobile phones, computers, notebooks or pocket PCs to access the Internet, log on to www.truecyberhome.com and use a personal password to look into their homes.
"We have used the latest technology to support the best lifestyle for people living at Blue Lagoon, to add convenience to their lives," Sutham said.
The home-automation aspect will allow home-owners or family members to control or to switch on air-conditioning or electrical power before they arrive home, or to switch it off after they leave, by using a mobile phone or the website.
"Home automation will help them have a comfortable home. It will also provide safety and security if they forget to switch something off before they leave," Sutham said.
The cyber-homes will also allow residents to use a WiFi link to the Internet. As a result, they will be able to work from home as well as accessing either home entertainment or Internet protocol TV, a system where Internet protocol delivers digital television services over a network infrastructure.
True Corporation's director and general manager for consumer relations, Phaibul Sirivanich, said his firm was also studying the possibility of providing a tele-medicine solution to the Blue Lagoon cyber community. Residents would be able to check health conditions with doctors at hospitals via a tele-medicine or online real-time network.
"We are trying to use new technologies to raise the quality of life for next-generation residents, by providing new services and making life more comfortable," Phaibul said.
