Democrats not yet in formal talks with Friends of Newin faction: Suthep

Democrat Party secretary general Suthep Thuagsuban on Thursday conceded that the Democrats are in contacts with every party relating to the formation of government although no formal talks have been launched with the Friends of Newin faction.

Suthep said the only way to overcome the political predicament was to form a credible government to regain the public confidence.

He said the Democrats will work with parties concerned in order to ensure that the next government will be acceptable to the public.

The 72-member faction of the disbanded People Power Party is seen as a crucial factor to determine who will be the next prime minister.

The faction members, including House Speaker Chai Chidchob, appear in no hurry to join the Puea Thai Party, saying they have until January 3 to finalise their decision.

Speculation is circulating that the faction may not endorse the prime ministeral contender picked by Puea Thai Party, seen as the spare of the disbanded ruling party.

Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana Party leader Chettha Thanajaro has emerged as a contender for the position of prime minister.
