True VoIP call boost



True Corp projects its Internet calling revenue at Bt350 million this year, up from Bt300 million last year.

Jay Jootar, general manager of the VoIP business, said yesterday the Voice over Internet Protocol business had signed up 150,000 individual and corporate users.

The service allows personal computers to make free calls to other PCs and inexpensive calls to phones anywhere in the world.

PC-to-phone individual customers contribute revenue of Bt70-Bt200

per month each, while PC-to-phone corporate customers generate Bt500-Bt1,000.

About 70 per cent of the subscribers make Internet calls from abroad to Thailand and the rest from Thailand to overseas countries. True launched the service in 2006.

The overall Internet calling market will be worth Bt500 million this year, he said.

True Corp's flagship businesses are telephone, cellular, broadband Internet and pay-TV.
