Private/Media issue joint statements on new Govt

The Joint Private Standing Committee and five media associations on Wednesday jointly announced four proposals which need cooperation from all parties to end the political stalemate.

The joint committee consists of Board of Thailand, Thai Bankers Association and the Federation of Thai Industries.

Twatchai Yongkittikul, secretary-general of the Thai Bankers Association, said that the associations are concerned with the global economic slowdown in 2009 which would severely hurt Thailand. The meeting of the associations follows their concern if the new government would be able to handle economic problems.

As the first proposal, they said that the judicial system must be exploited to end the political conflicts. All wrongdoers must be prosecuted and they must honour the laws.

The second is as the consequences of the global economic slowdown are grave, all parties in charge of the government formation should put national interests as top priority. The prime minister and ministers must be capable of handling the problems.

The third is all parties must thorough in forming the new government. The process could take time but it is better than rushing without taking into account the magnitude of the problems.

Last, due to political and economic crisis, all parties must lend supports to solve the problems. The committee will join hands with the media associations as well as other communities.
