AIRPORT CRISIS

Cathay flies some passengers to Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific on Friday operated a flight from U-Tapao International Airport, to fly about 100 passengers to Hong Kong, said Thailand manager Yongyuth Lujintanont.

He said all of them need to be flied home urgently, due to health and family problems.

"We have received calls for help but we can't extend help to all. Allowing us to operate from other airports would only solve the problem to some extent," he said.

Cathay, like other airlines, has suspended all flights to five destinations since November 25 since anti-government protesters took control of the national airport Suvarnabhumi.
