Samut Prakaran authorities on alert over airport's seizure

Samut Prakan authorities have been on the 24-hour alert as part of the preparations to handle the situation following the seizure of Suvarnabhumi Airport by the People's Alliance for Democracy, provincial governor Kwanchai Wongnitikorn said on Thursday.

All key units, including those responsible for medical services, will remain on the stand-by duty and stand ready to cope with any emergencies should violence erupt, Kwanchai said.

He said authorities would try to reason with PAD-led protesters to vacate the airport.

He was speaking ahead of the anticipated government announcement to designate the besieged airports at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang under the state of emergency to pave way for crowd dispersal.
