Govt confident of victory

Interior Minister Kowit Wattana on Tuesday expressed confidence the protest by the People's Alliance for Democracy would not last as police exercised utmost restraint.

Kowit, who is in charge of handling the protest situation, said he was informed that the number of the anti-government protesters was dropping sharply today. He believed the PAD would not be able to sustain their protest at the government's temporary office at Dong Mueang Airport.

He praised police for their patience in handling the situation yesterday. "Pol Col Patchara Bunyaprasit, Metropolitan Police Region 4 deputy commander, was assaulted but he was very patient,'' he said.

Asked what the government would do since the PAD vowed to lay seize to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters to prevent the Cabinet from holding a meeting, Kowit said, "They can go wherever they want."
