PAD: Time for negotiation is over

A peaceful way out of the current political crisis looks doom as an offer by the government to negotiate with the People's Alliance for Democracy has been turned down.

Deputy Prime Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul and caretaker Prime Minister said on Tuesday the government was ready to sit on the negotiation table with the People's Alliance for Democracy today, if it wanted.

He proposed that Opposition Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva be the mediator.

Abhisit said he was ready to be the mediator between the government and the PAD if he was asked.

Suriyasai Katasila, a PAD co-ordinator said the negotiation was useless now because the PAD had been wanting to negotiate with the government all along but the government was not sincere. "For instance, the government sent former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to negotiate but at the same time arrested a PAD leader, Chaiwat Sinsuwong,'' he said.
