German Ambassador Dr Hans Schumacher has called on Thai authorities to strictly prevent the sexual exploitation of children in Thailand.

He said the authorities must prepare efficient measures to deal with the problem.

Schumacher also pledged to support Thai authorities in tracking down, punishing and extraditing child sexual abusers.

According to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef), up to 1.8 million children and adolescents around the world are being forced into the flesh trade or pornography each year.

The German government has found over 3 million pornographic photos of children on the Internet.

In a related development, the World Congress on the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents III will run from November 25 to November 28 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
