Let's meet in the Parliament as scheduled: Chai


House Speaker Chai Chidchob ignored on Saturday the increasing calls from the coalition party and the army to relocate the parliamentary meeting scheduled on Monday from the Parliament to new place.

He said he would evaluate the situation on case-by-case basis.

He insisted the joint parliamentary session between the Senate and the House of Representative be conducted in the Parliament on Monday as scheduled although the anti-government protesters led by People's Alliance for Democracy planned to march to the venue.

Latest report said that the parliament has prepared power generator in case the protesters cut off the electricity power.

Chai was speaking after the latest attack on the protesters outside the Government House on Saturday early morning killed one PAD guard and injured many others.

Earlier Chart Thai party MP Somsak Prissananuntakul called for the parliamentary session scheduled on Monday to be relocated after the protesters planned to conduct a mass rally on Sunday and plan to march to the Parliament.

Somsak, who is agriculture minister, said he would like to propose to House Speaker Chai Chidchob to move to new place.

Somsak said he would like to remind the government about the October 7 violence in which a protester was killed.

Army Commander in Chief Gen Anupong Paojinda suggested earlier that the meeting should be relocated to new place to avoid any violence.

On October 7, the protesters surrounded the Parliament to protest the proposed charter amendments. They blocked all entrances, Prime Minister Somchai Wongwasat and Chai had to flee out by climbing over fences.

The protest turne violence when police fired tear gas into the crowds, killing one woman.
