14 Democrats vying to run in Bangkok gubernatorial race

Some 14 aspiring candidates will today present their vision statements to seek endorsement for the Democrat banner to run for the position of Bangkok governor, Democrat spokesman Buranat Samutharak said on Friday.

After reviewing the aspiring candidates, the Democrat executive board is expected to finalise the decision on endorsing the party's candidate for the gubernatorial race on Saturday, Buranat said.

Top contenders to run under the Democrat banner include Korn Chatikavanij, Sukhumbhand Baripatra, Kiart Sithiamorn, Korbsak Sabhavasu, Panit Vikitseth, Prakob Jirakitti and Samart Ratchapolsitte.

Two non-Democrat have applied for the party banner. They are former graft buster Kaewsan Atibhodi and former charter writer Seri Suwannapanont.

The candidacy registration is tentatively scheduled to start on November 30 and the balloting day is expected on January 11.
