Ratchadapisek land case finalised

The conviction of Thaksin Shinawatra on the Ratchadapisek land case in October is finalised after the fugitive ex-premier has decided not to appeal his guilty verdict for conflict of interest, chief prosecutor Seksan Bangsomboon said on Wednesday.

Today is the deadline for Thaksin to file for an appellate review.

Seksan said the next step is for authorities to enforce the court-issued warrant of arrest in order to bring back Thaksin to serve his two-year jail term.

At this juncture, a team of public prosecutors will try to determine Thaksin's whereabouts in order to initiate the extradition process, he said.

The warrant has the statue of limitations for 10 years.

Chief prosecutor in charge of foreign litigations Sirisak Tiyaphan said if Thaksin is living in exile in Dubai as per press reports, then Thailand will have to negotiate to bring back Thaksin based on the reciprocal principle.

The two countries have no extradition agreement.
