Thaksin will not appeal Ratchadapisek ruling

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will not appeal against the two-year imprisonment handed down by court on the Ratchadapisek land scandal, his lawyer said yesterday.

Thaksin has until Thursday to appeal against the sentence issued by Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders.

Kamnuan said the convicted PM would explain his reasons for not appealing directly to his supporters, though he could not say when that would happen.

However, Jatuporn Promphan, co-host of the "Truth Today" TV show, said Thaksin might explain himself during the "Mobile Truth Today" programme scheduled to be held in the Supachalasai National Stadium on December 14.

Thaksin is currently living in Dubai after fleeing Thailand in August as corruption cases - initiated by the military junta that overthrew him - piled up in the courts. He had initially been living in exile in Britain, but the UK revoked his visa this month, leaving the multi-millionaire in search for a new home.
