eBay launches Northern Thailand E-Commerce Summit 2008


eBay announced the Northern Thailand E-Commerce Summit 2008 that will take place in Chiang Mai from 1st to 10th December.


A series of free educational seminars and workshops will be offered to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well as individuals on how to develop successful online businesses and/ or integrate e-commerce into their current business models.

The Northern Thailand E-Commerce Summit 2008 is organized in collaboration with Bangkok Bank, DHL and Shopping.co.th to provide a complete e-commerce solution for businesses.

"In Thailand, SMEs provide the biggest source of employment and form the backbone of the economy. According to the 2007 Information and Communication Technology Survey (Establishment) Chiang Mai Province, National Statistical Office, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, 16% of Thailand's 13.5 million internet users are located in Chiang Mai but currently only 2.2% of the 25,000 SMEs trade online", said Allis Ghim, director at eBay.

"With the Northern Thailand E-Commerce Summit 2008, we aim to equip Thai entrepreneurs with the necessary knowledge and skills to market their products internationally and stay competitive. eBay, the world's largest online marketplace, is well positioned as a global online marketplace providing economic opportunities for sellers in Chiang Mai to trade internationally with over 84 million eBay users worldwide," 

On 1st December, interested parties who would like to register for the event can visit selected Bangkok Bank branches located in Chiang Mai. From 30th Nov to 5th December, there will also be roadshows at various locations such as Sunday Walking Street, Baan-Tawai, Bor Sang and Night Bazaar.

From 4th to 8th December, the seminars and workshops will cover topics such as the basics of selling online, successful e-commerce strategies and useful business tips from eBay PowerSellers. Speakers from Bangkok Bank and DHL will touch on financial and shipping solutions for online businesses. For those who are ready to start selling on eBay, there will be hands-on training workshops and individual consultation sessions conducted by eBay experts.

In conjunction with the launch of Northern Thailand E-Commerce Summit 2008, new sellers who achieve their first 100 successful listings on eBay will have their listing fees waived off. DHL will also offer up to 45% discount for various shipping services.
