Runaway Thaksin founds development foundation

Convicted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra unveiled a new foundation and research group with an objective to stimulate development in Asia and uncover potential and help address the challenges of developing countries.

With offices in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, the Building a Better Future Foundation sought to "nurture the next generation of Asia's business and financial leaders'' and help draft development policy.

Thaksin who is on the run from jail terms in Thailand wrote on the foundation's website under the headline, "Don't give up hope in the crisis," that the foundation sought to provide support to stimulate development in Asia, and is recruiting an incisive Think Tank group of rising stars.

"If, like me, you have an unwavering belief in Asia's bright prospects, I invite you to join me to achieve the goals of the Building a Better Future Foundation," Thaksin, chairman of the foundation wrote on the website.

The foundation, which has Thaicom foundation as partner, will reveal full list of the Board of Advisors in February next year.

The foundation is currently reviewing 4 proposals for projects which have requested our support and will announced several projects in the new year.

The foundation has Sam Moon as acting executive director. He described Thaksin as one of only a "handful of a new generation of Asian leaders who could become a "Clinton from Asia."
