The royal funeral of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana

Their Majesties the King and Queen presided over the royal funeral of HM the King's eldest sister; HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana on Saturday.



The Royal Cremation

9 pm : Their Majesties the King and the Queen arrive at the Royal Merit- Making Pavilion. HM the King presents saffron robes to 30 monks who chant prayers for the princess.

Their Majesties the King and Queen proceed to the royal crematorium, and perform the actual cremation.

Their Majesties retirm to the the front balcony of the Royal Merit-Making Pavilion. Members of the Royal Family and high-ranking officials in the royal service carry out the cremation of the royal remains.

After the completion of the royal cremation, Their Majesties the King and Queen proceed to the royal crematorium and present saffron robes at the pyre.

The symbolic royal cremation

6.05 pm : Their Majesties the King and the Queen perform symbolic royal cremation

4.52 pm : Their Majesties the King and Queen arrive at the Royal Merit- Making Pavilion.

4.58 pm : HM the King lights joss sticks and candles at the Buddhist shrine. HRH Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn proceeds to the royal crematorium to light candles at the royal offerings to the royal remains.

5 pm : The chief titled monk (Somdet Phra Racha Khana) gives a sermon, and 50 titled monks chant blessings.

Their Majesties the King and Queen proceed to the royal crematorium and perform the symbolic cremation, as court musicians sound their instruments. Guards of honor from the three armed forces salute, with taps played on a bugle, and 21 shots fired from cannons in honor of the occasion.

The Transfer of the Royal Urn from Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to the royal crematorium

7:08 am: His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrive at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall and begins the rite by lighting up candles and joss sticks.

7:13 am: Monks chant prayers before removing the royal urn from the Dusit Throne Hall.

The ceremony for removing the royal urn of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana is presided over by HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The first procession is formed in front of the Si Sunthon Gate in the Grand Palace.

7:34 am: Officials start removing the royal urn from its place inside the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

7:55 am: Artillery are fired to honour Princess Galyani while the royal urn is being transported to the the Royal Great Victory Chariot.

8:03 am: Royal guards carry the royal urn out of the western gate out of the inner part of the Grand Palace on to a platform in front of the gate in the outer part of the Grand Palace.

8:06 am: Officials start fitting the ceremonious golden case onto the royal urn.

8:15 am: Officials finish decorating the golden case of the royal urn.

8:16 am: The royal urn is put on the royal palanquin.

8:20 am: Royal guards carry the royal palanquin out of the Si Sunthon Gate.

8:25 am. Officials raise the tiered umbrellas over the royal urn on the royal palanquin.

8:31 am: The first procession of the royal palanquin starts from Maha Rat Road heading to Wat Phra Chetuphon, where the royal urn will be put onto the the Royal Great Victory Chariot.

9:01 am: The first procession arrives at the location where the Royal Great Victory Chariot is waiting. The royal palanquin is put beside the royal chariot.

His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn observe from a pavilion as officials are making preparations for moving the royal urn onto the royal chariot.

9:15 am: The Crown Prince gives robes to 20 monks by placing them at the base of the royal urn for monks to collect.

9:21 am: Officials and royal guards pay respect to the royal urn while it is being lifted onto the royal chariot.

9:24 am: Officials pay respect and play a royal march song in honour of the royal princess after the royal urn is put in place on the royal chariot.

9:31 am: Royal guards pay respect to the chariot before putting ropes onto it for pulling the royal chariot to begin the second procession.

9:35 am: The second procession begins with the royal guards pulling the Royal Great Victory Chariot on the route from along Thai Wang and Sanam Chai roads heading to the Royal Crematorium.

It is the most important, the longest, and the grandest procession, with the inclusion of royals. When set, the procession stretches from in front of the Ministry of Defense to Rajini School, led by a brass band, followed by five battalions of troops from the Royal Thai Army, and five battalions of the three armed forces.

10:34 am: The royal chariot is making a turn to reach the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang.

10:45 am: The royal chariot reaches to the royal cremation ground.

10:49 am: Artillery are fired and royal guards pay respect to the late princess when the royal urn is being lifted down from the royal chariot onto the royal palanquin.

His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn observe from a pavilion as officials move the royal urn down from the royal chariot.

10.50 am - Officials transfer the royal urn to the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles to make three anti-clockwise rounds of the royal crematorium, before setting the royal urn on the crematorium

The procession is formed at the entrance to the crematorium.

11:35 am : The royal urn on the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles finishes three anti-clockwise rounds of the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang.

11.45 am : Officials start transferring the royal urn to the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang

11.51 am : The royal urn arrives at the royal crematorium. Officials arrange and decorate the royal urn. The activity is done behind the curtains.

12.15 pm : The transferring of the royal urn from the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to the royal crematorium in Sanam Luang completes.

12.20 pm : HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and other royal family who accompanied the royal urn leave the royal crematorium site.
