Continued occupation may mean a new Govt House: Somchai

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat yesterday said if the People's Alliance for Democracy occupied Government House for much longer, the government might have to build a new one.

He also said the building was getting old and that restoration would cost a lot of money.

Somchai said the present building could be turned into a museum and a new Government House complex built in a location with better security.

He emphasised this was still just an idea. But if the government decides to go ahead with it, a new Government House complex could be built in Bangkok.

"Maybe it's time to change," Somchai said.
