"I have had it confirmed by a close aide of Thaksin that Thaksin and Pojaman have divorced. But I have no details," Phongthep said.
Thaksin and Pojaman had been living in exile since Thaksin was toppled in a coup de'tat in 2006. Both jumped the bail this year and faced several arrest warrants on several corruption charges.
The divorce came shortly after United Kingdom revoked their entry visas. London said the revocation was decided after a Thai court sentenced Thaksin to a two-year in jail
However many still expressed doubt the real reason behind their divorce.
Thai Foreign Ministry's deputy spokesman Thanee Thongpakdee declined to comment on the report, saying that they appeared at the Thai Consulate General office in Hong Kong to do "personal" business.
However Manager online quoted a close aide to Thaksin as saying that they decided to divorce as Pojaman opposed her husband's decision to continue his fights to return to Thailand.
"Pojaman did not agree with Thaksin's decision to continue the fight against the allegations and the court's rulings. They decided to divorce shortly after UK revoked their entry visas," the source said.
After the divorce, Thaksin would travel to stay in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which have no extradition with Thailand. Thaksin will from now launch his political fight by all means.
It is reported that their children already learnt of the divorce.
