Kingsgate discovers new gold deposit

Kingsgate Consolidated, owner of Thailand's biggest gold mine, discovered a new deposit near its Chatree mine.

"This discovery has the potential for a new Chatreesize gold system or even larger," Gavin Thomas, chief executive officer of the Sydneybased company said yesterday in a statement to the Australian stock exchange. Early drilling results, "support the company's longheld view of a significant new gold belt in central Thailand," the company said.

The discovery is located 20 kilometres north of the Chatree mine, Kingsgate said.

Production at Chatree will be between 100,000 ounces and 140,000 ounces in the year end¬ing June 2009, the company said July 23. That compares with 74,137 ounces a year earlier, it said. - Bloomberg
