Southern flooding

Days of heavy rain have brought floods to the southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani.

Eight districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat have seen heavy flooding, with 5,272 households in 168 villages affected. Heavy rains are forecast for later this week and early next week and residents are being advised to brace for rising waters in areas already inundated and coming floods in areas still dry.

In neighbouring Surat Thani, all schools in Tha Chana district, where flood levels of 1 metre have been reported, have closed. Urban residents isolated by the floods have been given survival kits. A bridge in Don Sak district's tambon 3 has badly damaged, leaving hundreds of people in the area cut off from help.

In Trang province, warnings of landslides and flash floods have been issued after days of heavy rains have swollen the Trang River which carries runoff from Nakhon Si Thammarat. The areas most prone to flash flooding are Muang district's low-lying tambon Na Luang and Yan Ta Khao town. -
