Schedule of ceremonies for late Princess

From November 14 to November 16, Thais will be in a mourning period for the late HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.

All royal ceremonies relating to the late Princess will be broadcast live to all TV channels between November 14 and November 19.

Thais across the country - from up North to down South - are also expected to bid her a due farewell throughout the period.

On November 14, a royal merit-making ceremony will take place at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to prepare for the relocation of the late Princess' royal urn to the royal crematorium.

The grandest ceremonies will follow the next day.

On November 15, awe-inspiring processions will carry the royal urn from the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to the stunning royal crematorium at Sanam Luang.

The processions will use both a royal chariot and royal palanquin. More than 5,000 soldiers, civilians and students will join the processions.

From 4.30 pm on, mourners can place sandalwood bunches in tribute to the late Princess at various locations across the country. In addition to eight spots at Sanam Luang, there will also be many designated spots at proper monasteries in every district.

His Majesty will place a sandalwood bunch at the royal crematorium too.

At 10 pm, His Majesty will then place the royal fire in the royal crematorium.

Although the mood will be sombre, traditions ensure that people enjoy some forms of entertainment.

From 7 pm of November 15 to the 3 am of November 16, free classical music renderings, traditional mask dance or Khon, and grand shadow plays will be on show at Sanam Luang.

On November 16, exquisite processions will bring the Princess' cremains to the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall and her ashes to the Emerald Buddha Temple.

On November 17, a royal meritmaking ceremony in dedication to the Princess will take place at the Dusit maha Prasat Throne Hall. The next day, the Princess' cremains will be moved to the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

On November 19, the Princess' ashes will be moved from the Emerald Buddha Temple to the Rajabopit Temple where the ashes will be kept in the Rangsi Vadhana Memorial.

This memorial is where the ashes of the Princess' late parents, HRH the Princess Sri Nagarindra the Princess Mother and HRH the Prince of Songkla lie.

Like her parents, late HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana will be fondly remembered forever for her good heart and dedication to Thais.

Anyone interested in learning more about the late Princess' history can visit an exhibition in her honour at Sanam Luang between November 18 and December 17.
