Cambodian police chief killed in helicopter crash

Cambodian national police chief was killed with other three people on board while his private helicopter crashed last night en route to Svay Rieng, bordering Vietnam, said a government spokesman.



"The helicopter crashed in Romduol district, Svay Rieng province, killing four people on board", said Khieu Kanharith, the government spokesman and the minister of information late at night on Sunday.

Hok Lundy, the National police chief, who is also close ally to Prime Minister Hun Sen, Sok Sa Em, a three-star general and deputy commander of the army, and the two pilots on the helicopter were killed in the incident, he added.

The cause of the incident has not been known yet, the spokesman said. However, the helicopter left Phnom Penh at 18:00 and the sky was very dark when it was approaching Svay Rieng, Khieu Kanharith added.
