US extends GSP to Thailand

The US government has extended the generalised system of preferences (GSP) for Thai export products by another year, according to the Foreign Trade Department.

The GSP, under which Thai exports can go into the US with zero tariffs, will end at the end of 2009.

Apiradee Tantraporn, director-general of the department, said conditions attached with the GSP would not be changed.

About 3,400 items are enjoying the GSP, mostly industrial items such as jewellery, rubber, electrical appliances and air-conditioner parts.

Five countries enjoying the highest benefits under the GSP during January-June are Ankola, India, Thailand, Brazil and Indonesia.
