Finance Minister Suchart Thadathamrongvej said that the budget would ensure another 1 percentage point in economic growth. The additional amount would boost the deficit in the fiscal year from Bt249 billion to Bt349 billion or about 3.5 per cent of gross domestic product.
His deputy Pradit Pataraprasit added that the Cabinet also appointed Deputy Prime Minister Olarn Chaiprawat as chairman of the committee to study how to allocate the Bt100 billion budget, to achieve the government's goals.
Suchart asserted that next week, the Cabinet would be asked to extend the deadline of stimulus measures for the property market. The temporary property-related tax cuts would end in March, 2009.
