Chiang Mai upbeat on Loy Krathong festival

Chiang Mai expects to draw at least 300,000 visitors during the Loy Krathong festival, where at least Bt700 million will be spent during the three-day festival.

Chalermsak Suranan, an official of Tourism Authority of Thailand, said the political conditions should not affect the tourism industry in the province. Meanwhile, lower oil prices would boost the sentiment.

Occupancy rate since early October has been 30 per cent higher than previous months. Chiang Mai generates at least Bt100 million a day from tourism business in off-season period.
