Pork price prunedPig raisers have agreed to cut the price of their animals Bt1 a kilogram to Bt55 with immediate effect, which should lead to a Bt5-per-kilogram drop in pork prices.
Swine Raisers Association president Surachai Sutthitham said red meat would now retail at Bt105 to Bt107 a kilogram.
He said the decision followed a 5-per-cent drop in feed-meal costs.
However, he declined to comment on the possibility of further cuts, saying the government's corn-price intervention scheme could delay further decreases in feed-meal prices. He pointed out the corn-pledging price of Bt8.50 a kilogram was above market value.
