More information from mutual funds

The Securities and Exchange Commission has ordered all mutual-fund companies to disclose their investment portfolios on a monthly basis instead of every six months.

The rule, which exempts property funds, requires them to reveal the top five stocks in their portfolios and the top five industries within 15 days of the end of each month.

The new rule will provide updated information for investors who may be deciding to invest in mutual funds at a time of high volatility, the commission said. - The Nation

Pork price pruned

Pig raisers have agreed to cut the price of their animals Bt1 a kilogram to Bt55 with immediate effect, which should lead to a Bt5-per-kilogram drop in pork prices.

Swine Raisers Association president Surachai Sutthitham said red meat would now retail at Bt105 to Bt107 a kilogram.

He said the decision followed a 5-per-cent drop in feed-meal costs.

However, he declined to comment on the possibility of further cuts, saying the government's corn-price intervention scheme could delay further decreases in feed-meal prices. He pointed out the corn-pledging price of Bt8.50 a kilogram was above market value.
