Newin turned down the request saying he would be overseas, a source said.
However, sources close to the veteran politician said Newin was angry about the "Non-Newin" group, and said he wanted to leave the matter up to the backers of Yaowapa, Yongyuth Tiyapairat, Sudarat Keyuraphan and the Isaan Pattana supporters of Justice Minister Somsak Kiartsuranont.
"They were involved with that [rally] since the very beginning, so let them finish it. I will stay still and not do anything. They did a lot of bad things to us in the past," Newin was quoted as saying.
The source said Newin had also ordered his supporters to stay away from the rally.
