Demand for speedy extradition of Thaksin to serve jail term

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat owes it to his office to set aside family ties with fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra and steps up efforts for extradite him from London, Democrat Party secretary general Suthep Thuagsuban said on Wednesday.

Suthep said Somchai was obligated to bring back Thaksin to serve out the two-year jail term.

He said the Tuesday's verdict to penalise Thaksin for committing conflict of interest relating to the Ratchadapisek land case was a proof that justice can prevail regardless of how high ranking a culprit is.

He said he was not surprised that Thaksin saw his punishment as politically-motivated. Certain people, including Thaksin, have low opinion of the judiciary because they view justice as causing trouble for them, he added.
