Dell opens Bangkok concept store

Dell yesterday launched its first concept store in Thailand as part of plans to penetrate the Thai consumer-computer market.

The store, in Zeer Rangsit information-technology mall, features a "built to order" concept. It is aimed at being a one-stop shop for smart computer users who need personalised devices that best suit their individual needs.

"Modern consumers are more selective in what they need in a new computer," said Dell (Thailand) managing director Anothai Wettayakorn.

Previously, customers bought products with features that did not suit their needs, he said. But Dell is inviting them to select a new computer according to their own unique requirements.

"At Dell, we understand today's consumer wants a computer to express their individuality and to truly reflect who they are and what they really need," Anothai said.

Act set back again

Internal Trade Department director-general Yangyong Phuangrach yesterday said the Commerce Ministry would try to push for the bill's approval by the Cabinet next week, to ensure an end to the destruction of small Thai retailers by the aggressive expansion of retail giants.
