Kiev hopes for IMF loan

Ukrainian leaders

Ukrainian leaders expressed hope of reaching an agreement yesterday with the International Monetary Fund for an emergency loan amid growing concerns about exposure to global financial turmoil. The European Central Bank also said on Thursday it would give its Hungarian counterpart access to up to ¤5 billion (Bt232 billion) to support liquidity in Hungary's foreign-exchange swap

market. [Earlier report: 3A]
