Police boss regrets about violence on protesters

Police Chief Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan said Monday he regretted that police's dispersal on protesters on October 7 resulted in deaths and injuries.



Patcharawat said he felt sorry for the loss of lives and injuries during police's dispersal of anti-government protesters.

This is the first time that a high-ranking police came out to say sorry after the October 7 violence in which two people killed and many others injured.

Patcharawat was speaking after chairing a ceremony at the Police headquarter to commemorate "Police Day" Monday.

Police authorities decided to cancel many functions usually do on Police Day following People's Alliance for Democracy's announcement that they will rally at the police headquarter on the same day.

The police chief said that police should do their best at their works and protect the institutions and democracy. "People should also be able to rely on police," he said.

Responding to reports that protesters will seek legal action against police over the October 7 violence, he said that investigation into the incident is going on. We should wait for the outcomes of the investigations.
