"The premier says he will compromise, negotiate, and comply with the rules of the game which all parties can accept. He will lead the way to achieving the charter amendment to make a better way for Thai politics," Kudeb Saikrachang, People Power Party spokesman said after party leader Somchai had called a special executive party members' meeting.
"When the situation is positive to the national interest he will make an appropriate decision," Kudeb said.
"Resignation is not difficult - but he opts to fight and solve the problem," he said.
The government has ruled out demands for the PM to resign or dissolve the House, saying the PM had done nothing wrong and wanted to remain in office until the royal cremation of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana was complete, he added.
If Somchai opted to dissolve the House, the ruling party was unsure if there could be a general election, the spokesman said. He added that the PAD might try to mar the normal electoral process by pressuring the Election Commission to resign and taking the advantage of political vacuum by working with their allies in the Senate to effect the PAD's idea of bringing about new politics.
Kudeb explained the government needed to announce its policy statement, otherwise it could not work.
Meanwhile, Somchai has indefinitely cancelled a special interview with the media scheduled for today, a source said.
Somchai does not want to answer media questions after Tuesday's police crackdown against the People's Alliance for Democracy protesters, the source said.
