No strike at major state enterprises

Members of the labour unions of State Railway of Thailand, Port Authority of Thailand and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority yesterday remained on duty, without mass work stoppage as feared.

PAT Governor Sunida Sakulratana said the Bangkok Port is operational as usual, but shippers are suggested to complete their shipments quickly for convenience. Some PAT staff left work to attend a general assembly yesterday.

SRT Governor Yuthana Thapcharoen also said that most staff at Makkasan Station were at work and the rate of sick leaves was normal, though it was estimated that over 1,000 staff would leave to join the People's Alliance for Democracy protest.

BMTA Governor Pinet Puapattanakul said the agency would continue its bus services, but some routes are avoided for safety reasons. However, he said the public would be informed of the changes.

"We have no policy to virtually halt the bus services. For information on the changed routes, please contact Tel 184 which is open around the clock," Pinet said.
