Snippets from a day of chaos

Bangkok Senator Rosana Tositrakul's husband Santisuk Sophonsiri sneaked into the House yesterday when he saw People Power MPs walking towards his wife and abusing her after she protested about the injured demonstrators and called on the government to show responsibility by dissolving the House.

Rosana and her husband were forced off the floor.Santisuk was taken to the security director's room for investigation.

Rosana defended her husband, saying he came into the chamber because he was concerned for her safety. Senators in Rosana's group boycotted the session.

People's Alliance for Democracy members turned to dirty tactics to counter the police and the government.

They hurled bottles of urine into Parliament and stones while trying to block MPs and senators from leaving.

They also released excrement from a truck, starting at the entry to the Metropolitan Police headquarters down to the Royal Plaza Intersection. This causing reporters and police to keep away from the area.

Parliament suffered a shortage of food after police and PAD demonstrators clashed, and power was cut to the building.

Only one stall was still open at the canteen, so officials had to eat instant noodles. Sitting MPs and senators weren't able to get any lunch until 12.30pm.

The noise from the police move to disperse the crowd early yesterday and the sting of tear gas caused officials at nearby Dusit Zoo to relocate two anteaters to Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon Buri.

Sophon Dumnui, directorgeneral of the Zoological Park Organisation, said the sensitive animals were shifted out in the morning, as he feared the noise and smell would bother them.

"We've decided to move them as they have good hearing and their exhibit is very close to Parliament," he said.

Dusit Zoo officials are monitoring all animals' behaviour, particularly four elephants that also live near Parliament.
