Threat issued

The Transport Ministry is threatening to force the cancellation of a contract with Thai Airport Ground Services (TAGS) for procurement of 9,034 baggage trolleys for Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Transport Minister Santi Prompat yesterday said he had assigned Airports of Thailand (AOT) to speed up the resolution of problems involving the airport's lack of trolleys.

He said if TAGS - as procurer of trolleys for the airport - could not obtain the full number in accordance with the terms of its contract, the ministry would instruct AOT to consider abandoning the contract. The lack of trolleys will affect the management of the airport and cause discomfort to passengers.

"If TAGS is content to be fined [penalties for failing to meet the terms of the contract] without doing anything to fulfil the contract, we may cancel it," Santi said, adding that AOT would have to seek a new procurer.

He was confident that calling bids for a new procurer would not affect the airport's trolley services.
