Defeat of PPP in Bangkok governor not affect national politics

The defeat of ruling People Power Party (PPP)'s city governor candidate would not affect the national politics, a PPP minister said.

"It also has nothing to do with the party's popularity," Wicharn Meenchainant, deputy Health Minister said.

However, he admitted that the anti-government protesters, and turmoil in his party, may have affected the decision of Bangkok voters. Moreover party candidate Prapas Jongsanguan had too little time to campaign.

"If the political situation was calm our party could present our clear policies. Prapas would have had more chance to win," he said.
