Samak resigns as PPP leader

Former Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has tendered his resignation as People Power Party leader, a source said on Tuesday.

Samak sent his resignation form through a fax to PPP executive board Samarn Lertwongrat, the party political registrar.

Samarn said Samak cited he had no ministerial post in the current government. Samak would continue to carry out his legislative duties since he did not resign as PPP party list MP and party member.

He said the PPP executive board automatically was dissolved as a result of Samak's resignation. The board would carry out caretaking role until the new board is appointed within 60 days.  Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat would be party leader caretaker since he was party deputy leader number one.

Samarn said no one had pressured Samak to resign and the party welcomed Samak to continue working as chairman of the party's working group in any field.
