PM to have PPP meet up and end internal quarrels

Once the government declares its policies to Parliament on October 8 and 9, the ruling People Power Party will hold a seminar to end conflicts within the party, Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said yesterday.

He said the quarrelling MPs would be given a chance to discuss their problems and come to an understanding. The PM made this announcement after PPP spokesman Kudeb Saikrachang declared on Sunday that the party had lost its soul due to power play and members re-grouping to create Puea Thai Party, in preparation for PPP's dissolution. Moreover, some factions have tried to break up the Friends of Newin Chidchob made up former Thai Rak Thai executives.

The comments from Kudeb, who is also part of Newin's group, raised criticism and conflicts within the party. However, PM's Office Minister Sukhumpong Ngonkham said the comments were personal, not the party's.

Roi Et MP Sakda Kongphet of the Isaan Pattana faction said Kudeb should be removed from his post as spokesman, because even though his comments were personal, the media would still attribute them to the party.

He added that problems should be solved within the party and that the MPs should listen to Somchai's decision in the weekly meeting today, he said.

PPP executive Paichit Sriworakhan, also from the Isaan Pattana faction, said Kudeb probably did not intend to cause problems and that he should be able to clarify himself in today's meeting.
