AOT lowers airlines' operating cost

Airports of Thailand Plc's board of directors on Monday agreed to cut the landing and parking fees for all airlines until end-December 2008, in order to support the commercial jets which have suffered from a sharp increase in fuel prices.

While the landing fee is slashed by 5 per cent, the parking fee is cut by half.

Airlines are also given two months to clear their fees, while the original schedule is a month, according to Serirat Prasutanond, acting president.

AOT's board also assigned Thavorn Panichbhandhu to chair a committee to investigate the insufficiency of trolleys at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai Airport Ground Services Co Ltd is concessioned to supply Suvarnabhumi with 9,000 trolleys. If the concessionire could not honour the agreement, it would be fined Bt2,000 per missing trolley.
