US CRISIS
TBA shows concerns on liquidity
By The Nation
Thai Bankers' Association on Monday proposed 5 measures to Finance Minister Suchart Thadadamrongvej, on concerns that the US financial crisis could lead to tight liquidity in the Thai market.
Suchart said the bankers urged the authorities to take a close look at the issuance of baht bonds by international organisations. It also urged the Finance Ministry to come up with a softloan facility, for emergency lending to selected industries. The debt restructuring -related taxes should also be waived, like what the government offered after the 1997 financial crisis.
All the proposals would be considered after the government testifies its policies to Parliament, Suchart said.
