Although the venue can accommodate up to 400 people, double the capacity of last year's show, there was an overwhelming demand for invitations to this much-anticipated event.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasmi graciously presided over the show, giving the highest support to the Crown Prince's daughter.
The collection, entitled "Ethnic Rock", has attracted tremendous attention from both fashionistas and the world media, including French television and prestigious publications such as Vogue Paris, Vogue Russia, Vogue Germany, Vogue Latino America, Vogue Protugal, Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, L'Officiel, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Madame Figaro, Point de Vue, The Daily Telegraph, Le Monde, Instyle, Le Figaro and Yomiuri Shimbun.
The ambience of the show was "classic elegance". The U-shaped stage was covered with glistening black vinyl to render even more distinctive the striking array of outfits.
Collection of 40 looks
Princess Sirivannavari's Spring/Summer 2009 collection comprises 40 looks. The collection is a crystallisation of ideas derived from various sources of inspiration: heavy rock music from the 70s and 80s as well as bondage-style photos by noted photographers.
The overall impression is one of modern femininity with an implicit sexiness, yet conveying a subtle masculine touch of rock. The distinctive structure of the collection is the geometric form enhancing the figure. The look includes casual ready-to-wear outfits and short cocktail dresses representing "rock luxe".
The delicacy of detail includes a braid of chain and silk cord decorating the neckline, with fine frills adorning the entirety of the delightful dresses. The absolute finest materials, silk crepe, silk chiffon, satin, suede, lamé, leather, mirror and Swarovski crystal, are added to create a touch of luxury.
The season's colour palette features vibrant hues ranging from electric fuchsia to mustard yellow to electric turquoise. Black, white, smokey grey and metallic serve to convey the unquenchable spirit of rock. The biker jacket in lamé is teamed with suede drainpipe biker trousers, while the silk- and metal-fringed sleeveless top in lamé is paired with a draped-front silk-crepe mini skirt. The asymmetric cocktail dress is meticulously adorned with silk and metal fringes.
When the finale arrived on the runway with a leather and crystal-studded butterfly-wing silk-crepe mini dress, the audience burst into applause.
